Acapellago (PH)

Acapellago is a Filipino contemporary a cappella group which originated in Bulacan, Philippines and was founded in November 2012. The name Acapellago came about from the group’s advocacy to help spread contemporary a cappella music to the Philippine archipelago and to the whole world.

The group is composed of five young artists who shares the same passion in singing.
The group has honed its craft by the numerous music events it has competed in. Starting with “Talentadong Maloleño” in 2012 in which APG won as the Grand Champion. Acapellago was also the very first Grand Champion of “Akapela Open”, a prestigious contemporary a cappella competition in the Philippines spearheaded by Mr. Ryan Cayabyab, One Meralco Foundation and PLDT-Smart Foundation.

With these accolades the group was awarded by the province of Bulacan as one of the “Gintong Kabataan 2014 Special Citation For Music”. In July 2015 Acapellago gave honor to the country when they bagged the Gold Award and reigned as the Grand Champion of the "A Cappella Championships 2015" (International Category) held in ITE College Central, Singapore besting other top a cappella groups from all over Asia. October 2015, the group won back their crown as the Grand Champions of the Akapela Open 2015 and was accorded Best in Arrangement.

The group was also recognized by the Philippine National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) as one of the outstanding Filipinos in the field of music and received the Ani Ng Dangal (Harvest of Honor) trophy in 2015 and 2016.

In August 2015, the group signed with Viva Records. In less than a year since, Acapellago posted a video of themselves singing the popular ditty “Tatlong Bibe” that has since gone viral with millions of netizens watching. The group subsequently released a digital track version of “Tatlong Bibe” and is now one of the most in-demand musical guests on TV today. Their viral streak continued as they made their own rendition of the popular “Rite Med” jingle which garnered 4 million views to date. The group was also chosen as one of the interpreters for PhilPop 2016 songwriting competition in which they sang “Stars Are Aligned.” Acapellago is also the latest endorser of the Rebisco brand biscuit.

Acapellago represented the Philippines at the Vocal Asia 3rd Asian A Cappella Festival in Taiwan, August 2016 and won 1st runner up. In the same year, the group went back in Singapore to compete in the Asia-Pacific A Cappella Championship League (September 2016), they were crowned Grand Champions.

The group was also invited by the HongKong International A Cappella Festival to be one of the overseas a cappella groups (among those are Drums of War from Australia, and The Techtonics from UK) to perform at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium with over 10,000 viewers in 2 nights, and conduct workshops, and camps in various places in Kowloon, New Territory, and The HongKong Island.

Recently, Acapellago stepped-up its game outside Asia and won the 1st Prize Ward Swingle Award (Pop Category) and the Audience Award in the Vokal Total 2017 International A Cappella Competition held in Graz, Austria. Before the year-end, the group released its physical self-titled debut album Acapellago Peroplano in October 2017.

To date the group continues to live their advocacy, travelling around the Philippines and the world, sharing their knowledge and skills to inspire many young artists in contemporary a cappella singing, spreading Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and other styles of traditional, popular and world music and lastly to contribute to the Philippine’s music and performing arts heritage.
