Vocal Line (DK)

Vocal Line is a modern a cappella choir of 30 singers, conducted by Jens Johansen. The choir was formed in 1991 in Aarhus and has as their proclaimed goal to act as a front-runner of the development of rhythmic choir singing, nationally as well as internationally.

Through the years Vocal Line has constantly worked towards expanding the limits of a cappella music, and the choir continues aiming towards musically higher levels.

Throughout their 20 years of existence, Vocal Line has achieved great recognition all across Europe and in several parts of the world, furthermore, Vocal Line can boast of having received a wide range of international prizes. In 2010 the choir had the honour of performing alongside with world famous vocal artist Bobby McFerrin, first at Jazz at Lincoln Centre in New York City, later on during Aarhus Vocal Festival.

The music of Vocal Line springs from the Danish choir tradition. From this basis the choir has developed a very personal style made from a strong mix of inspiration from pop, rock and jazz. As only few a cappella ensembles Vocal Line manages to join great, grandiose, Nordic tones with personality and fervour.

These abilities, combined with the well sounding, detailed and constantly experimenting arrangements, allow Vocal Line to move and touch their audience time after time – not least thanks to the individual musical empathy of the singers that makes everything come together in a unique and very characteristic way.

- no one sounds quite like Vocal Line!
